Abstract

In this letter we report on CuInS2xSe2(1−x)- doped glasses used as a saturable absorber for passive mode-locking of a Nd: YAG and Nd:YAlO3 lasers. Ultrashort pulses of 16 ps duration with 20 µj of energy (for Nd:YAlO3 at 1.08 µm) and 36 ps duration with 30 µj of energy (for Nd: YAG at 1.064 µm) are achieved, respectively. The bleaching relaxation time of CulnSSe-doped glass saturable absorber is found to be ~11 ps. The optical damage threshold for CulnSSe-doped glasses estimated from the intensity dependent transmittance measurements with the use of single laser pulses of 15 ps duration, is 70 GW/cm2.
