Abstract

We report the first investigation of frequency extension to 2.2-4.0 µm by optical parametric generation/amplification in 7% MgO doped LiNbO3 crystals pumped by a picosecond (ps) Ti:sapphire laser. The MgO:LiNbO3 crystals were chosen because of the very high optical damage resistance1 and good transmission from visible down to 4.0 µm.
