Abstract

Compact blue and blue-green lasers that can modulate are desired for a wide variety of applications. Recently, the intracavity sum-frequency mixing (1064 nm + 910 nm → 490 nm) in a b-axis KNbO3 crystal was demonstrated1 with Ti:Al2O3 laser and efficient blue-green output of 20 mW was generated with 100 mW of mixing power and a Nd: YVO4 laser pumped by a 400 mW laser diode. In this paper, we describe the all-solid-state blue laser by the intracavity sum-frequency mixing (1064 nm + 690 nm → 418 nm) in an a-axis KNbO3 crystal, and its modulation characteristic is demonstrated.
