Possibilities of fluorescence photodiagnosis for malignant tumor

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Fluorescence photodiagnosis is one of the prospective field of PDT, however, the development of PDD systems were hampered by some problems including side effect of photofrin, skinphototoxicity. In this paper we will discuss: 1. The effectiveness of new excimer laser endoscopic image-fluorescence analyzer system using new photoactivate drug, HAT-D01, meta-phenylene spacer-bearing porphyrin hetero-dimmers. The fluorescence spectra of HAT-D01 with its characteristic maximum peak at 670 nm was obtained only in cancer lesions, while surrounding normal tissue demonstrated negligible uptake of dye. This data suggests the possibility of future applications with this photoactive drug as well as with this equipment in the diagnosis of early stage cancer. 2. The possibility of fluorescence image analysis system assembled with high sensitive CCD camera. Through a maltilaminate interference filter, this system can detect the fluorescence at 670 nm wavelength from Mono-L-aspartyl chlorin e6 excited by arc lump. The fluorescence image of NPe6 in Meth-A transplanted tumor and metastatic lung cancer of colon 26 was captured 7 hours after injection of NPe6 by operating microscopic image analysis system with high sensitive CCD camera.
