Abstract

There has been much interest and activity in the cavity quantum electrodynamic (cavity QED) effects of atoms. When an atom interacts with the electromagnetic fields perturbed by the presence of a cavity, its radiative properties are modified. Cavity QED not only addresses fundamental questions in quantum physics, but also has potential applications to optical manipulation of atoms or microelectronic devices.
