Abstract

Laser based methods for gas analysis have very desirable properties in industrial applications. The laser gives the undisputed highest selectivity which is important in industrial environments such as in-situ stack monitoring where coexisting gases can give substantial measurement errors. Semiconductor laser diode based instruments can achieve very long operating life times and are clearly suited for industrial applications. Furthermore, fiber-optic based instrumentation has a large potential in areas where flammable and toxic gases exist due to the inherent explosion safety of optical fibers.
