Free-space photonic switching architectures

Abstract

Progress in creating architectures for free-space photonics switching has been slow because of the limited technology available for building free-space photonic switching systems. Newly developed technologies such as hybrid FET-SEEDs and large, well registered fiber bundles are allowing designs for extremely large photonic switches to be contemplated.
