Low Quantum Noise Laser Diodes Using High-Finesse-Cavities

Abstract

Laser diodes can be optimised for low quantum noise operation using symmetric high-reflectance-faceted devices to eliminate excess noise due to non-power-orthogonal longitudinal modes. Squeezed light generation may be possible using asymmetric high reflectance devices (~70-90%), with little excess noise penalty.
