Abstract
The coupled spatiotemporal instability of partial coherence is shown to occur in the Kerr medium. The nonlinear dispersion relation for the modulation instability is derived. A novel conclusion can be obtained: it is found that the width of temporal spectrum influences not only the temporal instability but also spatial instability.
