Abstract
We report continuous-wave (CW) operation of photonic crystal (PC) lasers with long lifetime over 10 hours, a challenging task for PC lasers to be considered as realistic and viable photonic devices. For stable CW operation, we van-der-Waals-bonded our PC lasers to a novel sub-mount structure consisting of MgF2-diamond bilayers on silicon substrate, which simultaneously ensures vertical mode confinement and efficient heat spread/dissipation. After that we spin-coated a MgF2 layer to prevent the van-der-Waals-bonded structure from being detached. The results demonstrated that the CW lifetime of PC lasers can be extended to the level for practical applications.
