Abstract

A simple vector bend sensing scheme based on polymer and silica fiber Bragg gratings is proposed. A high sensitivity of 0.937 nm/m−1 can be obtained in the curvature range of −4.2 to 4.2 m−1 and the bend orientation is distinguishable.
