Abstract

In this letter, mode-locked erbium doped fiber by using thulium and holmium co-doped fiber as the saturable absorber was observed under the situation of a long cavity. Stable mode-locked pulses with duration of 465 ns at a repetition rate of 216.7 kHz were obtained. Besides, it was found that the laser could be running from Q-switched state into mode-locked state by simply varying the pump power.
