Suppressing Intrinsic Backscattering in Ultra-High-Q Optical Microresonators

Abstract

We show > 30 dB suppression of intrinsic backscattering in ultra-high-quality factor whispering gallery mode resonators by controlling the position of a sub-wavelength scatterer within the evanescent field of the resonator.
