Abstract

Xerox has been in the facsimile market since the early Sixties. The earliest Telecopier device was able to send a document over telephone lines with a resolution of about 100 lines/in. The transmission speed for a 8½ × 11-in. document was 6 min. Further development led to the appearance of the Telecopier 400 model which was able to transmit a document in 4 min or 6 min. This compact device transmitted at higher speed (4 min) with some loss of resolution. These devices use a conventional light source for scanning the document. The printing was done on photoresistive paper.
