Mechanisms of Direct Neural Stimulation with Infrared Light

Abstract

Infrared light excites cells without any chemical or genetic pretreatment, and is thus an attractive stimulation modality in a variety of scientific and clinical applications. This talk will describe two highly general thermally mediated mechanisms underlying mid-IR and far-IR stimulation.
