Nonlinear thermo-optical oscillations in whispering gallery mode resonators

Abstract

We demonstrate that when pumped by a continuous wave laser, the interplay between the thermo-optic, thermo-elastic, and Kerr coefficients of a millimeter-size barium fluoride crystalline resonator results in complex relaxation oscillations with second timescale.
