Abstract

The nonlinear Kerr effect causes spontaneous symmetry breaking in bidirectionally pumped whispering gallery mode resonators, providing a system highly sensitive to external perturbations. We demonstrate symmetry-breaking-enhanced near-field sensing within a microresonator’s evanescent field.
