Line-Scan Optical Sensing System for Surface Characterizations in Laser Material Processing and Additive Manufacturing of Metals

Abstract

A prototype line-scan optical sensing system for applications in laser processing of metallic materials was evaluated. Identification and profiling of surface features (keyholes) was demonstrated and classification of surface roughnesses was achieved using neural networks.
