Prediction of ischemia reperfusion injury zone using in silico model of cardiac injury zone

Abstract

Myocardial infarction (MI) is the leading cause of mortality in the US and worldwide. MI following an ischemic incident can have detrimental consequences including heart failure. Ischemia Reperfusion (IR) injury following MI results in irreversible damage to the anatomy of the vasculature, and dysfunction of cardiomyocytes and myocardial tissue. These changes in time precipitate heart failure (HF) leading to loss of cardiac structural and functional integrity. In the present study, we are developing an in silico model of cardiac vasculature to quantify size of IR zone.
