Abstract

Electrodeless RF inductive gas discharges of coaxial geometry are an attractive choice for long life flash-lamps, for use in Nd:YAG solid-state lasers, although the optimum operation parameters of such discharges remain still unclear.1-3 A deeper understanding of the physical properties of inductive RF discharges will facilitate wider applications in laser technology. In this paper we discuss discharge stability, excitation efficiency, and operating frequency scaling, aimed at the optimisation of coaxial RF excited flashlamps.
