Abstract

Considerable effort has been directed at determining the spatial and temporal characteristics of semiconductor laser arrays. Apart from its technological significance, this interest can partly be ascribed to the fact that in regarding the system as a set of coupled oscillators, the laser array exhibits interesting nonlinear behaviour that is not as complex as the continuum spatio-temporal investigations centred around transverse effects in, for example, lasers operating at high Fresnel number.
