Abstract

We have measured many of the internal parameters (excited state and ground state atomic populations, electron densities, etc.) as functions of time in the pulse repetition cycle, and of radial position in the plasma tube, in a 42-mm bore 40-W copper vapour laser (CVL) running under standard operating conditions. This has enabled us to compile the most complete and comprehensive parameter map of the CVL yet assembled in which all of the measurements refer to a single device, operating under identical conditions and with all timings accurately referenced to a well-defined datum.
