Abstract

Vertical-cavity surface-emitting semiconductor laser's (VCSEL) have very short cavity lengths (~μm), which usually result in single longitudinal mode operation. However, their transverse mode spectra are often complicated and their spectral linewidths correspondingly broad. Here we consider how to control transverse mode spectra and linewidths by weak optical injection from an external coherent source.
