Abstract
If atoms are held at distances of a few ten Angstroms apart from a metal surface they radiate in a "confined" space, similar to atoms radiating inside a very narrow cavity. Implementing a two-photon laser-induced fluorescence (TPLIF) method the behaviour of such atoms has been investigated recently in terms of changed optical as well as surface properties (sticking and diffusion).1
