Abstract

As reported recently [1], some of the infrared spectroscopic properties of Tm doped CaYAlO4 such as a large and broad 3H63H4 absorption cross section (~ 1.5 × 10-20 cm2) near 800 nm and a large and broad 3F43H6 stimulated emission cross section (~10-20 cm2) near 1900 nm, are very attractive for tunable two-micron laser operation using diode pumping with relaxed diode wavelength control.
