Abstract
Contrary to crystalline quantum structures, amorphous multiple quantum wells (MQW) like Si-SiO2 heterostrustures do not require lattice matching because of their nonperiodical structure. Thus strong electron confinement can be expected in such quantum structures. Here we have studied the second-order nonlinear optical properties of amorphous Si-SiO2 MQW using Optical Second-Harmonic Generation (SHG). The anisotropic characteristics of the quadratic response as well as the influence of the applied de electric field on the SHG intensity are investigated for this type of MQW.
