Abstract

The beam quality of high-power solid state lasers can significantly be improved by using phase conjugating mirrors. These mirrors can easily be realized by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in liquids or gases. Such SBS phase conjugating mirrors were used in single-rod Nd:YALO double pass amplifier systems with average output powers of 100 Watts [1] and 140 Watts [2].
