Abstract
In the image reconstruction and restoration techniques, the phase information is found to be considerably more important than the amplitude information, which thus leads to the invention of the phase-only filtering in the VanderLugt correlator arrangement. The joint power spectrum (JPS) in the joint transform correlator (JTC), can be viewed as the interference fringe between the reference and input scene modulated by the cosine of the fringe phasors1. The phase difference between the reference and the target is carried by the fringe carrier determined by the separation between the reference and the target. This paper investigates the performance of the joint transform correlator which encodes the fringe phases of the JPS onto a phase SLM to the input of the second optical set-up.
