Abstract

Optical phase conjugation via degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) in saturable absorbers presents the advantages of being a fast response time and passive technique. What makes this process attractive is also the possibilitv of using solid-state and compact materials [1,2]. Recently, it has been shown that tetravalent chromium (Cr4+) doped GSGG and VSGG can be used for phase conjugation at the fundamental wavelength of neodymium lasers at λ = 1.06 μm [3,4]. In this Communication, we demonstrate a more efficient DFWM process by using Cr4+-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) at λ = 1.06 μm in the nanosecond regime.
