Abstract

Tunable infrared radiation can be generated from tunable visible radiation by a variety of nonlinear optical techniques such as parametric generation, difference frequency mixing and stimulated Raman scattering. The latter technique is attractive for its inherent simplicity since it is automatically phase matched in contrast to the parametric techniques that require the use of birefringent materials.
