Abstract
Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy is a form of optical emission spectroscopy and was first proposed in 1962 [1]. The basic experimental set-up of laser induced breakdown spectroscopy is shown in figure 1, where the induced plasma luminescence is spectrally analysed. This in turn provides a unique spectral signature of the target material composition.
