Abstract

The rare earth ion Yb3+ is an efficient sensitizer for Ho3+ crystal lasers [1]. It has a broad absorption band lying in the emission range of commercially available InGaAs diode lasers and a very efficient energy transfer to Ho3+. In our paper we investigate the laser properties of four Yb3+:Ho3+:YAG laser crystals with 15 at.% and 30 at.% Yb3+ and 2 at.% Ho3+ and two different crystal thicknesses. The laser was operated at 295 K in active mirror mode.
