Abstract

Fast parallel image processing applications require optical modulators that are sufficiently fast (MHz modulation rates [1]) and that can operate with the optical power of a standard laser diode (W/cm2). We present here results obtained with innovative-design heterostructures, based on piezoelectric barriers, suitable for realising all-optical modulators that match these requirements.
