Cascade Acceleration of Photons front the Infrared to the Ultraviolet in Nonlinear Optical Media

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Photon acceleration is a well understood mechanism in plasma physics. Here we describe a similar experiment using non-ionised optical media (glass). An intense and surprising effect occurs, which leads to a cascade of perfectly coherent and synchronised beams of different frequencies, ranging from the infrared (near 800 nm) to the ultraviolet (around 300 nm).
