Abstract

With the increase of speed and bandwidth of modem optical telecommunication systems, the need for various spectral diagnostic measurements of system components increases as well. For such applications, we introduce temperature-tunable Fabry-Perot filters made of silicon. Depending on the design parameters, the filter can serve either as a frequency discriminator, as an accurate wavelength meter, or as a spectrum analyzer. These devices are compact, rugged and inexpensive, and allow a full automation of the measurement procedure.
