Abstract
Four-wave mixing experiments in flashlamp-pumped Nd:YAG [1] and laser pumped Ti:sapphire (Ti:S) [2] have been shown to have the potential for high phase conjugate reflectivities of grater than 100%. A gain medium in self-intersecting loop geometry can be considered a holographic laser resonator, in which a gain hologram written in the gain medium by the self intersection of the input beams forms a diffractively-coupled resonator in which the lowest-order mode is the phase conjugate. In this paper we present, for the first time, the experimental implementation of a self-pumped phase conjugate (SPPC) laser in transversely laser-pumped Ti:S slab amplifiers and discuss the characteristics of the resulting laser radiation.
