An influence of thermal lensing on the laser operaton in Chromium-doped forsterite at room temperature

Abstract

The pump power absorbed in the solid-state laser crystals gives rise to thermal loading effect owing to the temperature dependence of the refractive index nl. Because of this the characteristics of the laser can be drastically changed, so this effect is important to design efficient laser system. The temterature distribution T(r,z) inside the laser od in the steady state satisfies a well-know differential equation and the resulting thermal variation of nl can be analytically evaluated in terms of the exponential integrals [1]:
