Abstract
We have been developing LD-pumped solid state laser to realize high average power and a compact ultra-short pulse Ti:sapphire CPA laser1,2). A Nd:YAG laser being developed consists of an oscillator, a preamplifier, and two post amplifiers and installs zigzag slab laser crystals to achieve high pulse repetition rate (PRR) as well as high pulse energy shown in Fig.1. The both ends of all the zigzag slab Nd: YAG crystals have nearly Brewster's angle. The TEM00 laser pulse (10 mJ) from the oscillator passes through the preamplifier. Then the amplified pulse (30 mJ) propagates through two post amplifiers which have angle multiplexed double-pass configuration. These post amplifiers are connected each other with three image relay telescopes in order to archive high beam quality. Then the amplified laser pulse is relayed to a LBO crystal (10 × 8 × 15 mm3) with another image relay telescope. The maximum fundamentalaverage power of 250 W was obtained at the PRR of 200 Hz. The second harmonic of 105 W was produced by introducing the fundamental laser radiation of 200 W into the LBO crystal at the PRR of 170 Hz. The pulse energy of the second harmonic was 0.62 J and the pulse duration 15 ns. The energy conversion efficiency was around 53 % and the wall-plug efficiency for the second harmonic 2.0 %.
