Abstract

The realisation of an ‘optical diode’, i. e. a device acting as an optical isolator for input light of a given wavelength, is a real challenge in integrated optics. Spatial non-reciprocity was first observed during second harmonic generation (SHG) in a waveguide which was made asymmetrically nonuniform by altering its linear properties along the propagation.[1]
