Coupled-cavity passive Q-switching

Abstract

We show that an absorbing medium in a coupled cavity can be used to obtain a Q-switched regime of operation. At the same time, such regime can occur as an undesirable effect in laser pumping schemes, when feedback to the pump laser is not sufficiently suppressed [1]. The presented theory allows to estimate the critical parameters in order to optimize or exclude the Q-switching.
