Abstract

Polarization insensitive detection of optical phase modulation can still be considered as one of important problems, which is facing, in particular, practical utilization of coherent optical communication lines. We consider novel polarization insensitive detection configurations, utilizing adaptive photo-detectors, which can be based on photorefractive Two-Wave Mixing (TWM), or photo-EMF configurations (see e g [1]) Earlier in [2], we presented preliminary experimental results, which were obtained using adaptive GaAs photo-EMF detectors in a two-detector configuration, where "physical" separation of the detected signal wave into two orthogonally polarized components was used. Linear summation of two partial output electrical signals was needed there to get an output "compensated" signal.
