Abstract

As a key component for today’s and future wavelength division & multiplexing (WDM) telecommunication network, fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) have been heavily studied for one decade Bragg gratings are written in the fiber core using the UV light side exposure technique. These grating compoments are commonly characterized by the reflection coefficient R and the Bragg wavelength λB. In the spectral range from 1500nm to 1600nm, the Bragg wavelength λB will change with the temperature (ΔλB/ΔT around 0.01nm/°C depending on the fiber) and the strain (ΔλB = 52 10−4 nm/με) [1] applied to the component written in the optical fiber.
