Abstract
Photonic band-gap (PBG) structures [1] have been shown recently to open up new possibilities in controlling spontaneous emission, low-threshold optical limiting and switching, waveguiding and bending of laser beams, creating compact tunable optical delay lines and pulse compressors, phase matching in nonlinear-optical interactions, and many other applications.
