Abstract

The study of the lineshape of semiconductor lasers is very interesting since it is related to fundamental phase and frequency noise sources which are usually hidden in other kinds of laser. The standard Schawlow-Townes theory for phase diffusion have been completed by Henry considering the coupling between amplitude and phase fluctuations1. Further investigations include the experimental evidence of a Lorentzian power-independent contribution and the presence of 1/f excess noise.
