Abstract

The use of dispersion management in conjunction with in-line nonlinear optical loop mirrors (NOLMs) can be a powerful technique to achieve stable soliton propagation at high bit-rates and to enhance quality of the transmission, as it exploits a combination of the effects of dispersion management [1] and the action of NOLMs as saturable absorbers. We have demonstrated [2] that we can achieve all-optical passive regeneration and distance-unlimited transmission of a soliton data stream at 40 Gbit/s over standard fibre. In this paper we investigate the tolerance of this result.
