Abstract

Tunable narrow linewidth light sources are essential for a variety of applications in the fields of medicine and metrology. For the generation of laser emission with excellent beam quality and high output powers fiber lasers are particularly suitable due to the fact that the transverse mode properties are completely determined by the fiber waveguide design. Furthermore, systems based on double-clad fibers offer the additional advantages of high efficiency, reliability and low cost.
