Abstract

The paper reviews advances in solid-state lasers with respect to various laser active centers in crystals. Most solid-state lasers achieved in the spectral region 400 nm to 3000 nm are based on 4f- 4f-transitions of rare earth and 3d-3d-transitions of transition metal ion doped crystals.
