Abstract
The LiInS2 single crystals are considered to be promising for nonlinear optical applications in the mid-IR because of their high nonlinearity, absence of two-photon absorption (band gap at Eg=3.57 eV), high thermal conductivity and a wurtzite-type lattice structure. The latter is expected to allow electric field poling of periodic structures for quasi-phase-matching like in the case of KTP which belongs to the same (mm2) point group. Most recently we successfully demonstrated second harmonic and difference frequency generation (SHG, DFG) as well as optical parametric generation (OPG) in LiInS2 and an accurate characterization of this novel nonlinear material is in progress now.
