Abstract
We present a novel approach that for the first time combines global optimization with coupled mode theory and the transfer matrix method (TMM) for the reduction of the longitudinal field profile non-uniformity in a quarter wave shifted (QWS), distributed coupling coefficient (DCC), index coupled distributed feedback (DFB) laser, operating in a region above its threshold (turn-on) injection current. Initial results show significant field intensity profile non-uniformity reductions over a range of injection currents, indicating this has the potential to be a powerful laser design method.
