Abstract
Solid-state tunable mid-infrared laser radiation sources operating at room-temperature are required for many applications in spectroscopy, ranging, remote-sensing, medical diagnosis, medical treatment, and also for coherent pumping of solid-state lasers as well as nonlinear optical materials. The transition-metal ions-doped II-VI semiconductor compounds are promising materials for laser operation in the mid-infrared spectrum especially for the possibility of wavelength tuning in a broad range.
